Join us in celebrating Black History Month with this special program honoring Ebenezer D. Bassett, America’s First Black Diplomat.

This First Monday Forum will feature a viewing of the documentary film A Diplomat of Consequence, which tells the story of Bassett’s life and work as a diplomat whose “courage in the face of threats during his tenure placed him among the greats of diplomatic and American history.”

The viewing will be followed by commentary from the film’s writer, director, and producer, Christopher Teal. Professor Teal is a member of the Senior Foreign Service and the George Washington University visiting State Department Public Diplomacy Fellow for the 2022-2024 academic years.
