October First Monday Forum: Unprecedented Challenges -- The Future of the State Department and Public Diplomacy

PDCA's October 6 program will feature Richard Parker, who serves as the Senior Policy Advisor to the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC). Parker will describe how the USGLC is defining the challenges and how the Coalition is working to ensure, in Secretary Rubio’s words, America is safer, stronger, and more prosperous.

Richard Parker serves as the Senior Policy Advisor to the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC) and as a Principal with RAMP Solutions. He previously served as Assistant Administrator for the Bureau of Legislative & Public Affairs at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), having been unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate to manage the corporate brand and all public and congressional relations for the agency. He oversaw all external and internal communications efforts within the U.S. and globally with missions and offices in more than 100 countries. He also served as the Vice President of External Affairs at both Food for the Hungry and Project Concern International, leading the global brand and marketing strategies, media relationships, advocacy efforts, and online tools for the organizations. Earlier in his career, he led the communications teams for the USGLC and the U.S. Peace Corps and served at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The USGLC works to strengthen America’s civilian-led tools — development and diplomacy — alongside defense. It advocates for a strong International Affairs Budget and is working to make America’s international affairs programs a keystone of U.S. foreign policy. It brings together more than 500 businesses and non-profits from across the country. As the premier advocacy organization for America’s Engagement in the World and International Assistance (the 150 account), USGLC has a unique perspective and capacity to impact U.S. diplomacy in the years ahead.

The event will take place at noon at GWU's Lindner Family Commons (1957 E Street, NW, Room 602, Washington, D.C. 20052) and will also be available via Zoom. For those who arrive before 11:40 a.m., a light lunch will be provided.
