April First Monday Program: Classical Music as Cultural Diplomacy
You are invited to a Zoom-only program on April 1 that will focus on Classical Music as Cultural Diplomacy. The speakers are:
- Carla Canales, Senior Advisor for Cultural Exchange at the President's Committee for the Arts and the Humanities. Carla is an educator, cultural diplomat, arts advocate, author, and non-profit entrepreneur who has undertaken multiple cultural diplomacy missions.
- Carol Hess, distinguished Professor of musicology at the University of California, Davis. She has just published Aaron Copland in Latin America: Music and Cultural Politics. Carol is also the author of Experiencing Latin American Music and Representing the Good Neighbor: Music, Difference, and the Pan American Dream.
- Pauline Yang, a distinguished music diplomat who had frequently played at US embassies around the world. From her undergrad days at USC, Pauline has always mixed the study of music with international relations. She has a master’s degrees in piano performance from USC and in international relations from Tufts University’s Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
