Applications for Hans “Tom” Tuch PDCA Graduate Fellow Now Open

The Public Diplomacy Council of America is now accepting applications to serve as
the Hans "Tom" Tuch Graduate Fellow for 2026-2027.

Qualifications:

1. Knowledge of the field of public diplomacy
2. Background in website management, digital media, and online communications
3. Experience in event planning and project development
4. Superior organizational and communication skills and professional networking and outreach capabilities

Eligibility:

1. Accepted to any graduate program in the School of International Service or School of Communication, American University, the Elliott School of International Affairs or School of Media and Public Affairs, George Washington University, the Master of Science Program in Foreign Service, Georgetown University, the School of Advanced International Studies, Johns Hopkins, or any other public diplomacy centric graduate program in the DC area.
2. Enrolled full-time (9 credits or more) or part-time (3 credits or more)
3. Has U.S. citizenship

Approximate hours per week: 20
Start Date: June 1, 2026
End Date: June 30, 2027
Monthly Stipend: $1250
Reports to:
PDCA Co-Presidents and Director of Communications
 

Administrative Duties:

 1. Support the work of the Board of Directors
a. Collaborate with the Co-Presidents to communicate with the board of directors,  draft agendas, edit minutes, and process other documents
b. Maintain a record of approved minutes both on the cloud and hard drive 
 
2. Monitor the organization’s email account and respond to or forward emails as needed
 
3. Maintain the files and records of the organization using cloud-based record storage, including maintaining and expanding the PDCA E-Handbook as needed
 
4. Coordinate with the PDCA Co-Presidents and other authors to draft and disseminate the weekly Public Diplomacy Today newsletter for members
a. Compile a weekly calendar of public diplomacy-related events and share it with  members and the public
b. Provide editing and technical support for Public Diplomacy Today
 
5. Work with the Membership Committee Co-Chairs to a maintain membership list on the PDCA website
 
6. Supervise Communication Intern in coordination with the Director of Communications
 

Event Planning Duties:

 1. Attend Program Committee meetings and work with members to develop program titles, descriptions, invitations, and branding slides 
 
2. Manage selected events, both online and hybrid, using appropriate software
 
3. Draft program descriptions for selected events for promotional purposes
 
4. Coordinate with Rising Professional tech hosts to determine run of show and be available on stand-by to troubleshoot as needed
 
5. Take and archive photos
 
6. Manage room reservations and catering for in person events
 
 

 Website Maintenance Duties: 

 Make routine updates to the website as determined by the supervisors and Communication director.
